Israel Activism on the Campus of Northwestern University
By Ben Decker

"Amidst the wars over the Middle East that take place on college campuses all over the country, there are colleges that function in peace. Not all colleges in the United States have as much pro-Palestinian or anti-Israel activity as Rutgers University or Boston University, in fact some colleges have relatively peaceful environments when it comes to their stance on the Israel-Arab Conflict. In the windy city of Chicago, the prestigious Northwestern University is an institution of higher learning where there are few clashes over the Middle East. Despite a small Jewish community at Northwestern, anti-Semitism is rare and the Hillel Cultural Life organization is the voice of that Jewish community."

Politics and Israel: Kerry's Stance on Israel
By Rachel Bayefsky-Anand

"In February 2004, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts – then one of many candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination – wrote an article in the Brown Students for Israel publication “Perspectives: An Israel Review” titled “A Powerful Journey, An Essential Dream.” In it, he describes in moving language his visit to Israel, finishing with “In this difficult time we must…reaffirm our belief that the cause of Israel must be the cause of America—and the cause of people of conscience everywhere.” This statement infuriated pro-Palestinian groups and pleased pro-Israel organizations, opening a debate over the now-Democratic nominee’s views on Israel.
