Activism on the Campus of Northwestern University

"Amidst the wars over the Middle East that take place on college campuses
all over the country, there are colleges that function in peace. Not all colleges
in the United States have as much pro-Palestinian or anti-Israel activity as
Rutgers University or Boston University, in fact some colleges have relatively
peaceful environments when it comes to their stance on the Israel-Arab Conflict.
In the windy city of Chicago, the prestigious Northwestern University is an institution
of higher learning where there are few clashes over the Middle East. Despite
a small Jewish community at Northwestern, anti-Semitism is rare and the Hillel
Cultural Life organization is the voice of that Jewish community." (Read

"Rabbi Yitzhak Greenberg
and his wife Blu Greenberg entered an Israeli hospital last
year to meet with two men. The first was an 18-year-old artist
who had just received a cornea transplant that ridded him
of his blindness. The other was a 51-year-old Palestinians
who had just received a liver transplant. What was in common
with these two meetings was that both these transplants were
operated with the organs of the couple"s deceased son Jonathan

Kerry's Stance on Israel

"In February 2004, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts – then one
of many candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination – wrote an
article in the Brown Students for Israel publication “Perspectives: An
Israel Review” titled “A Powerful Journey, An Essential Dream.” In
it, he describes in moving language his visit to Israel, finishing with “In
this difficult time we must…reaffirm our belief that the cause of Israel
must be the cause of America—and the cause of people of conscience everywhere.” This
statement infuriated pro-Palestinian groups and pleased pro-Israel organizations,
opening a debate over the now-Democratic nominee’s views on Israel. (Read
